Background

National Ski Team Background:

Laura is taking another step forward in her continued development in 2020-21 where she will be competing for the first time in the Senior Development Program. Laura is no stranger to the National Ski Team. She has steadily been progressing in the Junior Development Program over the last three seasons.

Introduction to Cross-Country Skiing:

Laura’s introduction to cross-country skiing began in beautiful Gatineau Park while participating in the Jack Rabbit program. Admittedly, her favourite part was the apres-ski hot chocolate at the time, but the sport capitivated her and is now focused on chasing an Olympic dream in cross-country skiing.

She attributes this passion to her home club, Chelsea Nordiq, which Laura credits with making a big difference in pursuing a career in the sport. With a very family-focused team, Laura established established close connections with many members at the club. Her club coach, Moe Samm, created a fun envirionment that Laura attributes to develop a passion and love for cross-country skiing.

But it was after attending a handful of training camps with the Quebec program, and Natioal Ski Team where she discovered she truly wanted to chase the goal of being a high-performance cross-country skier. She loves the feeling of accomplishment, hard work and liberty the sport brings her.

The Olympics remain her biggest dream, but she is also anxious to continue following the development path and have the opportunity to represent Canada while racing World Cups and World Championships.

Personal:

Laura loves cookcing an grabbing a nice “apero” with family andn friends. She also enjoys many watersports including SUP, kiteboarding, and surfing. Laura’s family has always been very active and loving of the outdoors with the exception of her sister who was a synchro swimmer.

Makes sense – one of Laura’s favourite places on earth is at her family cottage on the Outaouais River. The peacefulness helps her stay ground. It is her happy place.

Laura is currently enrolled in the administration-accounting expertise program at University of Laval.
