National Ski Team Background:
Competing in his first season on the National Ski Team, Sam Hendry is one of the country’s top recruits out of the Canmore Nordic Club where he has been training before joining Team RAD. He has steadily worked his way through the development path – racing domestically in major competitions including Eastern, Western and National Championships until 2018 when he took part in the Alberta Ski Team B Tour where he gained his first international experience racing in Switzerland and Germany while racing National and OPA level competitions. Sam furthered his international race experience that year when he lined up in the Norwegian National Championships. Last year, Sam was named to the Junior National Team where he competed in the World Junior Championships in Lahti, Finland. His best finishes were 21st in the 10km skate, and 20th in the 30km mass start race.
Introduction to Cross-Country Skiing:
Growing up in Canmore, Sam was introduced to skiing by his parents who would ski regularly at the Nordic Centre. His goal is to achieve the best possible results that he is capable of at the highest level possible.
When not training or competing, Sam enjoys drinking coffee, playing outdoors in the Canadian Rockies, climbing, ski touring and mountaineering. He has two younger siblings who are also both cross-country skiers. He will be attending the University of Utah this fall where he will study biology and race in the NCAA system while also continuing to compete for Canada internationally.
