The award was established in 1999 in recognition of the contribution made to the sport by Malcolm Hunter, 1970 Olympian and past CCC Treasurer, Coach and Executive Director. More info – Malcolm Hunter skied for Canada at the 1972 Olympics at the age of 21, placing 43rd and 45th. He won the 1969 Junior Championships by over a minute and a half and also won the Canadian Senior Championships that year. He was a long time Executive Director and volunteer with Cross Country Canada, author of a book on the history of skiing in the Gatineau and this trophy in his name honours the senior aggregate champions of the Ski Championships. The sculpture was created by Angus Cockney. The polar bear represents strength needed to be a Champion with an image of a female face with braid to ensure it includes male and female champions. The bear is somewhat unfinished as a symbol that Nordiq Canada will always be challenged in improving and refining programs to develop Champions so the work will always be on-going.[/et_pb_accordion_item][/et_pb_accordion][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_4″ _builder_version=”4.9.7″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_image src=”https://nordiqcanada.ca/wp-content/uploads/canada-cup-award.jpg” title_text=”canada cup award” _builder_version=”4.9.7″ _module_preset=”default”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_accordion _builder_version=”4.9.7″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Canada Cup” open=”on” _builder_version=”4.9.7″ _module_preset=”default”]Annually recognizes the top skiers, male and female on the domestic race circuit.[/et_pb_accordion_item][/et_pb_accordion][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_4″ _builder_version=”4.9.7″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_image src=”https://nordiqcanada.ca/wp-content/uploads/Club-Agregate-trophy.jpg” title_text=”Club Agregate trophy” _builder_version=”4.9.7″ _module_preset=”default”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_accordion _builder_version=”4.9.7″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_accordion_item title=”AltaGas Club Aggregate Trophy” open=”on” _builder_version=”4.9.7″ _module_preset=”default”]Presented Annually to the club accumulating the most points during the Canadian Championships, the AltaGas Club Aggregate trophy was made in celebration of 10 years of AltaGas partnering with Nordiq Canada. Inuit sculptor and multimedia artist, Angus Cockney created the award. A former national team skier and national champion, Angus is also the father to NST alumni Jesse Cockney. The Award represents AltaGas’s flame. A second interpretation is the image of an iceberg. Given the purpose of the trophy as it is presented to a national champion…champions come-and-go with time. Just like an iceberg seems strong and solid, it too eventually disappears.
