Background

National Ski Team Background:

Graham started training in his hometown of Parry Sound at Georgian Nordic coached by Peter Wiltmann. Five years ago, he moved to Thunder Bay to join the National Team Development Centre. Four years ago, Graham was able to ski to a 12th place finish in the skate sprint at the World Junior Championships which earned him a spot on the National Ski Team. He enjoyed his strongest distance race at the World Championships in 2019 when he clocked a 13th-place time in the 15km classic-ski race. Graham built on these solid results for another breakthrough season in 2021 highlighted by a 17th place finish in the World Cup sprint race in Ulricehamn, Sweden and teaming up with Antoine Cyr to finish seventh in the Team Sprint at the World Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany.

Introduction to Cross-Country Skiing:

Graham’s parents put him on skis for the first time when he was around five years old. He joined his local Jackrabbit program in Parry Sound and skied a few times a month growing up. Juggling around hockey and skiing took up a lot of Graham’s childhood, but hockey was always the priority. It wasn’t until Grade 12 that he decided to pursue skiing and to train full-time and put all of his focus into racing. Unlike most skiers Graham talked too, he never followed the World Cup or knew anything about the elite level of skiing for the first few years when he started racing. He really didn’t base his inspirations off of that, and just knew that he loved the sport.

Personal:

Outside of skiing, growing up in Parry Sound gave Graham the opportunity to be involved in a bunch of different activates such as hockey, snowmobiling, golfing, wakeboarding, boating and so many more fun things! He is currently taking Business at Confederation College in Thunder Bay.
