2020 COOP FIS Cross Country World Cup races in Canmore cancelled
March 12, 2020 (Canmore, AB) – In response to the growing risk surrounding the rapid spread
of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Alberta World Cup Society has announced the cancellation
of the 2020 COOP FIS Cross Country World Cup event in Canmore, Alberta, slated for March 20-22. In consultation with Alberta Health Services, Nordiq Canada, Canadian Snowsports Association and Federation International de Ski (FIS), the event will be cancelled.
“As hosts of the 2020 COOP FIS Cross Country World Cup event, this is a sad day. However, the
safety of our community is paramount in the face of the COVID-19 crisis,” said Alberta World Cup Society event chair Norbert Meier. “This fast-moving and international phenomenon has introduced an unprecedented level of risk to our event.”
For the past two years, the Alberta World Cup Society has been working diligently to bring this event to Canmore. “We would like to thank our volunteers, sponsors, athletes and officials for their remarkable efforts behind this event. We understand and share your sorrow over this decision, however public safety is our chief concern. The Alberta World Cup Society has been bringing World Cups to Canmore since 2005, and we will strive to do so moving forward,” Norbert Meier said.
