Para Nordic Annual Development Camp:

Who is this camp for?

  • Competitive Para nordic athletes, who have at least two years of training/racing experience. *
  • Athletes should be on the Para nordic Competitive Pathway and meet Classification eligibility criteria.
  • Athletes must have their own classic, skate, or sit ski equipment.
  • Visually impaired athletes must have a personal guide or coach at the camp.
  • Athletes should be comfortable on, and able to ski on a variety of terrain, in different snow conditions and weather.
  • Athletes need to be a current member of a Nordiq Canada registered club**

Objectives of this camp

This Camp will be an excellent opportunity to get on snow early (happening during Frozen Thunder). In addition, the camp will provide guidance, support and further development opportunities for divisions and clubs including technical refinement, nutrition and recovery workshops, tactical skills and assessment of the athlete’s progress along their development journey (athletes will leave with an updated Technical Report Card).  There will also be the opportunity to try and improve Biathlon skills as well as a supported time trial during the camp.

 

Coaching/ Coach Development

Coaches and athlete support personnel traveling with athletes to the camp (Division or club representatives), will be responsible for supporting their athletes, including transportation, ski preparation, equipment readiness and on snow and general team organization.

Nordiq Canada will provide technical leadership for the camp, including integrated coach mentoring opportunities, a waxing workshop and learning opportunities in the athlete centered workshops (nutrition and biomechanics).

Para Nordic Wax Technician Workshop: It will introduce high level competition, waxing and equipment preparation, procedures, testing and more.

National/International Classification- TBD

Classification may be available to eligible athletes in the days following the training camp (18,19th of November). This will be confirmed as soon as possible. If you or your athletes need classification, please contact Leslie Bode as soon as possible to confirm numbers.  We will let you know as soon as this is confirmed.

 

Registration and Camp Fee:

A camp fee of $150 per athlete will be charged at the time of registration.  This will help cover some of the programming and support costs.  Final details of the schedule and registration will be available in early September.

 

Cost

Travel, meals, and accommodation are the responsibility of the athletes and coaches, including air and ground transportation (from home, airport and training sites).  Please note for possible training in Banff National parks, a Parks pass is required, similarly a Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required for parking at the Canmore Nordic Centre and various other areas within Kananaskis Park

Accommodations

Accommodation is the responsibility of the athletes and coaches. Nordiq Canada members can access the discounted rate at Basecamp Resorts Canmore, using the DISCOUNT CODE: NORDIQPLUS

Participants are not required to stay at Basecamp, and there are many accommodation options available in Canmore.

All costs associated with this camp and races are the athlete, club or division’s responsibility.

 

International PN WC Trip Selection Races:

We will be hosting two (2) FIS Para Snow Sport (FIS PSS) sanctioned Continental Cup events.  These two races will take place after the Camp in Canmore: November 20th and 21st

Schedule:

  • November 21- Distances TBD

To be eligible for selection and to achieve the required FIS PSS points, athletes must be FIS PSS/IPC internationally classified.

Athletes hoping to compete at the trip selection races must meet minimum eligibility requirements:

All competition trips, as outlined in the Para Nordic Competition Trip Criteria 2024-25 document must be met as well as the following:

  • Be able to complete a 5km race within approximately 20 min or have race results demonstrating a ski speed of a minimum of 3.9m/s for women and 4.23m/s for men. This is equivalent to 200 FIS PSS points and approximately 35% behind an international winner’s time. The minimum standard for Prospect Team selection.
  • If competing in the biathlon races, athletes must have their own equipment and have completed at least 2 previous biathlon races.
  • Resister and complete payment will be through Zone4

 

Selected Athletes:

Canadian PN athletes who are selected for the PN World Cup races in Finland, will be invited to stay on Canmore for a World Cup prep camp

World Cup Prep Camp: November 22-24th: This camp will prepare athletes for competition at the World Cup level.  We will review the schedule, expectations, equipment, travel logistics and race preparedness.
