Canada’s Best Young Cross-Country Skiers Kick Off NorAm Season in Canmore
CANMORE, ALTA.— Canada’s best senior and junior cross-country skiers will kick off the 2019/20 Haywood NorAm Series at the home of Nordiq Canada, toeing the line for three races at the Canmore Nordic Centre, December 6-8.
More than 600 athletes will be competing in the premiere developmental competition series for cross-country skiing on the continent. The weekend will include the first race of the AltaGas Sprint Series on Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. The interval classic on Saturday, and interval skate-ski races Sunday are both scheduled to start at 9 a.m. The races will also host international athletes as part of the US Super Tour race series and the designated Mexican National Championships.
The event will also be used as the qualifying event for the 2020 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) held in Lausanne, Switzerland January 10-19 as well as a zone qualifier for the Alberta Winter Games, to be held in Airdrie, Alta., February 14-17, 2020. Both events have produced athletes that have gone on to represent Canada on the international stage.
Host of the season-opener, the Canmore Nordic Ski Club, has been part of the local nordic ski community for over 25 years and has more than 600 members pursuing a variety of levels of cross-country skiing and biathlon.
