Statement From Nordiq Canada
Nordiq Canada Statement on International Participation of Russian and Belarusian Cross-Country Ski Teams
Nordiq Canada joins our partners at the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee in condemning Russia’s unprovoked and deadly military attack on Ukraine. Our thoughts are with all citizens including our Nordic family members in Ukraine, as well as those within our community across Canada who have family and friends affected by this crisis. Nordiq Canada and its national team athletes fully support the decision by FIS to immediately suspend Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from participating in FIS-sanctioned competitions for the remainder of the 2021-22 season. We also encourage FIS, the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee to suspend Russia’s and Belarus’ memberships in their respective organizations. In addition, we fully endorse the Canadian Paralympic Committee’s belief that Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials should not be allowed to participate at the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing. We believe sport should play an important role in promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding and bringing the world together through the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship. We hope for an immediate peaceful resolution to this horrific situation taking place in Ukraine.
