
RACE LICENCE APPLICATION
A Nordiq Canada race licence entitles you to compete in nationally sanctioned races like provincial cups, the Canada Cup series, and the Nordiq Cup (Continental Cup) series. The race licence comes with added bonuses, like race seeding, inclusion in ranking lists, and eligibility for Canada Points List (CPL) points.
Nordiq Canada Race licences are available to purchase from July 1 to June 30 each year.
Make sure you join your club before applying for the Nordiq Canada race licence – the licence is only valid if you are a current club member.
Nordiq Canada race licences cost:
- $75 – U20 and older
- $65 – U16-U18
- $35 – U12-U14
- $35 – Associate Licence
FIS licences are available to purchase from July 1 to June 30 each year and cost $105 if purchased before November 1. See below for more details on FIS licence eligibility. Please contact if you need a race license before this date.
Nordiq Canada Race Licence
- The licence entitles qualified racers to enter Tier 1 and 2 competitions.
- The race licence holder is eligible for Canada Points List (CPL) or Para CPL points and resulting seeding when competing in Tier 1 and Tier 2 events.
Nordiq Canada Masters Race Licence
- Issued to Nordiq Canada members racing in the Masters categories.
- The Masters Race Licence enables masters to receive Canadian Points List (CPL) in select events, and be included on the Canada Masters Ranking List.
- Masters Race Licence holders will also need to have a Canadian Masters Association Licence.
- Seeding will be based on CPL ranking unless otherwise stated in the technical package.
Nordiq Canada Associate Licence
- Issued to foreign racers who do not belong to a Nordiq Canada club.
- The licence entitles qualified racers to enter Tier 1 and 2 competitions.
- The race licence holder is eligible for CPL or Para CPL points and resulting seeding when competing in Tier 1 or 2 competitions.
SafeSport Training
- Race licence holders commit to following the Nordiq Canada SafeSport policies and are required to take the following modules within 30 days of purchasing their race licence
- Coaches Association of Canada’s free SafeSport e-learning module (~ 90 minutes
- Understanding the Rule of Two e-learning module (~ 20 minutes)

FIS Licence
FIS and Para FIS licences are issued by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation and are two (2) distinct licenses.
To purchase a FIS license, you must
- Be a Canadian Citizen who has not purchased a FIS licence from another nation
- Have a valid Canadian Passport
- Have a current Nordiq Canada Race Licence
- Be a current member of a Nordiq Canada Club
- Have reached your 16th birthday before the end of the calendar year (1st January – 31st December) in which the season ends.
FIS requires all licence holders to have domestic sport accident insurance above what is covered by provincial and territorial health plans and most private health plans. To adhere to this regulation, all FIS licence holders are automatically enrolled in the Nordiq Canada Sport Accident Insurance.
FIS licence
- Earn FIS points,
- Receive Prize money when awarded,
- Qualify for a Nordiq Canada Competition Team,
- Mandatory for ALL athletes competing in the Open Category at a Nordiq Cup (COC) event
- Para athletes who want to compete and earn FIS (not Para FIS) points, must purchase a FIS licence
FIS Para Snow Sport (FIS PSS) Licences
- Earn Para FIS points,
- Receive Prize money when awarded,
- Qualify for a Nordiq Canada Competition Team,
- Mandatory for ALL athletes competing in the Open Category at a Para Nordiq Cup (COC) event
Athletes with a Visual Impairment (VI) Using a Guide
1. Domestic Tier 3, Tier 2 and 1 (non COC) events
- The Guide will need a Guide Licence which can be purchased when the VI athlete purchases their licence
- The guide licence is transferable between the athlete’s guides; to be valid, each guide must sign a waiver at their first race of the season
- If the regular and only guide of the athlete has a Nordiq Canada Race Licence, the athlete does not need to purchase the guide licence.
2. Tier 1 COC and International Competition
- The Guide will require a Nordiq Canada Racing Licence and a FIS PSS licence.
Nordiq Canada Event Licence
Event Licences can be purchased when registering for individual events and are only valid for the day of competition for which it is issued.
Tier 2 Event Licence
Formerly known as Supporting Member Day Licence (SMDL), this licence is applied to Tier 2 competitions and is reserved for competitors U14 and older who do not hold any type of Nordiq Canada Race licence. The licence is only valid for the competition day for which it is issued and does not allow for CPL point accumulation.
Tier 3 Event Licence
This licence is applied to Tier 3 competitions and is required of all participants in a Tier 3 event, regardless of whether they hold any type of Nordiq Canada Race Licence. The licence is only valid for the competition day for which it is issued.
