Officials Development

Cross country and para-nordic skiing have great racing events, thanks in part to our dedicated officials. Officials tell us they enjoy the sense of community in what they do. Unlike many sports, cross-country ski racing requires many independent officials working on varying tasks, often separated by more than a kilometre. That makes communication and coordination critical.

Many roles are very simple. They can be filled by parents and other volunteers who are new to ski racing. Other roles are highly techincal. Did you know that Canada’s most highly trained officials travel the world to officiate World Cups, Olympics and Paralympics?
